Parametric modelling of rainfall return periods in south-western Nigeria: Survival analysis approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Rainfall is the main source of water on earth’s surface. It infiltrates and percolates deep into soil for groundwater recharge. Rainfall patterns, amounts, durations, intensities can vary daily, monthly, annually, spatially. therefore important to accurately estimate rainfall return periods, which be employed in hydraulic design flood control measures. Methods: This research considered survival analysis approach prediction periods including intensity, months during these would occur south-western Nigeria. Twenty years’ annual data were obtained from three metrological stations subjected nine different probability plotting position methods. Results positions was further four models using five years censor time. The Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) used determine best-fitting model dataset. Results: The Laplace conjunction with log-logistic distribution best describes datasets, since it gave lowest AIC value 22.53. also suitable period Weibull values 6.934 -4.332 respectively. Hirsh description Conclusion: established parametric are accurate peak events any month year.

Background: The activity concentrations of some radionuclides in soil samples collected from 20 locations in 8 major towns in Oyo State, Southwestern Nigeria have been determined by gamma-ray spectrometry technique. Materials and Methods: The activity concentrations were determined using high-purity germanium (HPGe) detector (Canberra Industries Inc.). The outdoor absorbed dose rates in air at ...
متن کاملA Non Web-Based Rainfall Information System for South Western Nigeria
A non web-based rainfall data base of the South Western Nigeria was designed with the objective of providing user friendly source of data for the region. The study used the rainfall data obtained from the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Ibadan and it covers from year 1985 to 2007. The study uses Microsoft Access (2003) for data base creation as well as Visual Basic 6.0 (VB 6.0)...
متن کاملCancer distribution pattern in south-western Nigeria.
The burden of cancer in Nigeria is appreciable with about 100,000 new cancer cases being reported in the country each year. This study aimed to determine the level of occurrence and pattern of distribution of different cancer types in two major functional cancer registries in south-western Nigeria. A desk review of the level of occurrence and pattern of distribution of different cancer types in...
متن کاملDeterminants of Poverty among Rural Households in South Western States, Nigeria
Nigeria represents one of the paradoxes of development in which case the nation is rich but her people are poor. This study examines the rate of poverty among rural households in South western, Nigeria. A random multistage sampling was employed for the study. Ekiti and Osun states were randomly selected from the six states in South-western Nigeria. This was followed by random selection of two L...
متن کاملSurvival analysis of breast cancer patients with different chronic diseases through parametric and semi-parametric approaches
Introduction: There is a lack of information on the extent of dependency between chronic diseases and the survival rate of breast cancer. Until date, none of the models proposed has determined the impact of chronic diseases on breast cancer survival. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate the impacts of chronic diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure, and endocrine di...
